Description

The other night there was a clear patch, which took ages to arrive, due to creeping high cloud that was prevalent, at least for a while. I finally managed to get 100 subs of this region. I originally wanted to take a different object, but due to waiting for the weather to change, I got so tired that I settled for this and then I inadvertently chose to orientate the camera in a not-so preferable way! Typical! Fortunately, I got enough data so that the crops included within this picture allow me to rotate the picture and give a close up, without losing much of the resolution, and in so doing regain a better orientation - in effect. I have a couple of other images to process, but at the moment the weather has gone and the forecast is not looking favourable for a while.

I had some difficulty with the subs/flat frames for this picture. I actually bought two different accessories for the Rasa, [to help with cable management], one of which was a brilliant thing designed by someone in the USA, which I got printed here in the UK using a 3D printer - picture included. Isn't it amazing we can do that sort of thing! Anyway, the device enables one to hide their cables, but at the same time create star spikes [which is not what Rasa images are like, of course] - which I quite like. Unfortunately, and maybe this is due to how I take flats, I do not know, the vanes on this thing created drop out regions on the images which the flats did not correct and thus it really affected the final stack - I had to redo the flats without this accessory attached in order to save the day. I am sad about this, because it is such a good thing to have. Any comments on this, if you have any ideas, would be appreciated. I think there is a version available with 3mm wide vanes on it, so maybe that would be better because the vanes are less wide?

Thanks for looking and have a good day. Simon   :  )
